Spirit Master: Kiyokawa Gin

Japanese Kiyokawa Gin stands out in the crowded market with its unique blend of botanicals from the Japanese Alps.

Most recently, the gin was awarded Gold at The Gin Masters 2024 – First Tasting, underlining the ever-growing global appreciation for Japanese gin and spirits. The judges praised it for its citrus and floral notes on the nose, its “nice piney hit on the early palate” and its “dry and intense finish”. Founded in 2019, Kiyokawa Farm Distilleries is nestled in the small mountain town of Iiyama, surrounded by the Japanese Alps. The gin is made with local botanicals sourced from the surrounding forests, highlighting the distillery's farm-to-bottle philosophy. Kiyokawa Gin offers aromas of 'blossoming wildflowers and candied yuzu, followed on the palate by a 'complex blend of Japanese and traditional botanicals' with a 'sweet and savoury' finish. Founder David Troiano commented on the recent recognition: “We are honoured to receive this recognition. We feel that it is important for us to be able to elevate the distinct terroir of this region.” Kiyokawa Gin has gained a local following and will soon be available in selected markets in Europe and North America. In addition to gin, Kiyokawa — whose name means 'clear river' — also produces Yamagiri vodka and Kensei and Nobushi whiskies. Earlier this year, the distillery announced it is offering whisky casks for sale through Dekantā.
