Smokehead launches stout-finished whisky

Ian Macleod Distillers-owned Smokehead has debuted Twisted Stout, a limited edition Scotch whisky part-finished in stout casks.

Islay single malt Scotch whisky Smokehead has rolled out a stout-infused whisky on a limited basis. Twisted Stout has been part-finished in stout casks, for a 'cream, malty stout flavour'. Iain Weir, Smokehead brand director, said: “Our unique and disruptive Smokehead thinking has led to some convention challenging, trail-blazing, rule-breaking whiskies over the years that don't follow the usual traditions and rituals. “Twisted Stout is as far away from a standard single malt as the combination of tastes, aromas and flavours inside the bottle. “So, while all our releases come with an original twist, our latest might just be our most twisted yet. Which is just how we like things.” The 43% ABV bottling boasts sweet aromas of chocolate and treacle toffee on the nose, and presents a palate of salty smoke, dry roasted nuts, toasted marshmallows and fresh coffee. The finish contains notes of wood smoke, spices and toasted biscuits. Twisted Stout can be purchased exclusively from www.smokehead.com for RRP £49.99 (US$68.10). Earlier this year, Smokehead whisky partnered with rapper Professor Green and Dragons' Den investor Stephen Bartlett to produce a rulebook made for burning. The brand also entered the RTD category in July this year, with what it claims is the first ready-to-drink single malt Scotch range on the market.
