Sierra Tequila expands Antiguo range
Stock Spirits-owned Tequila brand Sierra has added a new 100% agave expression to its portfolio – Antiguo Reposado.
Sierra Tequilas are produced by fourth-generation workers at the Destilerías Sierra Unidas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Mario Kappes, global advocacy and education manager at Stock Spirits, said: “Our 100% agave range Sierra Antiguo, with the qualities Antiguo Plata and Antiguo Añejo, is very popular with many bartenders. The products impress with an edgy flavour profile, full power of agave flavour and a perfectly integrated alcohol content of 40%, which makes it possible to perfectly balance popular Tequila drinks. "This includes the Margarita in all its variations, as well as the Paloma and many other well-known Tequila drinks. There are also no limits to creativity thanks to this unique flavour profile. But one thing was missing from our 100% agave range: a reposado Tequila." The idea for a Sierra Antiguo Reposado came about via discussions with various bars. Philipp Stahl, head of global brand marketing at Stock Spirits, explained: “Without further ado, we decided to travel to Mexico together with a team from the bars Friedrich from Heidelberg and Hagestolz Bar from Mannheim to taste different barrels there. "It was important for us to understand the needs and requirements of bartenders for our new Sierra Antiguo Reposado product and to incorporate them into the final product." Distillates from various casks were tasted by the entire team, and three casks were then bottled as single casks, now available as a bundle on the brand's website. For the new reposado expression, the 100% agave distillate is matured for eight months in ex-Bourbon barrels, creating a Tequila 'perfect for bartenders'. Kappes added: “Our Sierra Antiguo Reposado is characterised by its fruity and tangy agave taste, like our popular Sierra Antiguo Plata. The ageing in selected barrels also gives it light caramel and vanilla notes. This perfect combination unites the freshness of the agave with the subtle nuances of the barrel taste.” The official launch of Sierra Antiguo Reposado will take place at the Bar Convent Berlin 2024 in mid-October and can be tasted at Sierra's stand 18C15 in Hall 18. Stahl concluded: “The response to our single cask has been overwhelmingly positive: the high mixability and the extraordinary taste experiences of the three different barrels are impressive. We are already looking forward to the launch of Sierra Antiguo Reposado." Last month, Sierra Tequila revealed its new brand identity and logo that showcases the brand’s ‘festive spirit’.
