Sailor Jerry rolls out eagle bottle design

by Annie Hayes

Spiced rum brand Sailor Jerry has introduced a limited edition eagle bottle design to "make a statement" in the on- and off-trade ahead of the Christmas period.

The bottle is one in a collection of designs paying homage to tattoo artist and brand namesake Normal ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, and follows the launch of its 'hula girl and the anchor' label in August. The brand has launched the bottle as part of a recent push to reinforce its "premium" status while at the same time celebrating its tattoo influence. A statement from the brand reads: "A bird indigenous to North America, the eagle icon speaks of strength and freedom and was adopted as a symbol of American patriotism during the war. "This resonates with Jerry’s early tattooing days inking fellow soldiers and sailors at his legendary tattoo parlour in World War II-era Hawaii. "The bottle is also decorated with the bold red rose, a traditional symbol of love and a common favourite amongst sailors when choosing their tattoo to remind them of their wives, girlfriends or mothers whilst at sea." The bottle is available in all major UK supermarkets at the RRP of £20.29.
