Rampur expands Jugalbandi whisky line
Radico Khaitan had released a trio of Indian whiskies: Jugalbandi #3 and #4, and the 2023 edition of its Rampur Select.
All three expressions are produced at the company’s Rampur Distillery, which is located at the foothill of the Himalayas in India. Anup Barik, master distiller at Rampur Distillery, said: “We are always striving to continue innovating with each new release. I love marrying together pairs of different casks in the Jugalbandi series and am excited to have Rampur Select available again. We are looking forward to unveiling these three new expressions.” The Jugalbandi #3 and Jugalbandi #4 are part of a limited edition range of eight Indian single malt whiskies, which take after an ancient musical art form – the name translates to 'entwined twins', which, in the world of music, refers to a duet between two solo musicians and instruments. The Jugalbandi #3 has been matured in American Bourbon barrels and Port wine casks. Of its notes, drinkers can expect flavours of sweet plum cake, mango and lychee, alongside vanilla and spice. Limited to 400 bottles, the whisky sits at 54.8% ABV. The #4, meanwhile, was matured in first-fill American Bourbon barrels and pale ale casks. Bottled at 52.4% ABV, this combination of barrels and casks is said to mix fruity and floral notes – of green apple, pear and mango – with a 'sweet malty undertone'. There are 382 bottles available. Beyond the UK, the new Jugalbandi expressions will roll out in the US, EU, Singapore and global travel retail. Sanjeev Banga, president of international business at Radico Khaitan, added: “We created the Jugalbandi series to celebrate the Indian ancient art form and are proud to showcase our Indian heritage with the third and fourth launch of this series. ''The first and second expressions in the Jugalbandi series sold out in record time and we are excited to see the reaction to this next range of limited edition, collectible whiskies. Finally, for the Rampur Select Indian Single Malt Whisky, non chill-filtered and bottled at 43% ABV, this has been distilled in traditional pot stills. It’s said to bring fruity and spicy notes, with a ‘hint of caramel and vanilla on the nose’. ''Rampur Select has also always been a firm favourite amongst Rampur Whisky enthusiasts and we are excited to bring this back to our key markets this year," Banga added. The three whiskies can be purchased from DrinkSupermarket.com. The Jugalbandi #3 and #4 retail for £400 (US$483) per 700ml bottle, while the Rampur Select goes for £99 (US$120) per 700ml bottle. Earlier this year, Radico Khaitan debuted another new whisky from the Rampur Distillery, called Sangam World Malt Whisky.
