Singer-songwriter Nick Jonas and US designer John Varvatos have become the latest famous faces to enter the agave spirits industry with the launch of Villa One Tequila. The pair were inspired to launch their Tequila brand after taking a trip to Mexico with friends and family in 2018. Jonas said: "John and I forged a great relationship while working together. When we brought our friends together over Tequila in Mexico, we learned that we share the same values – enjoying time with friends and family, old and new, one glass at a time. "When it came to Villa One, it was critical to us that we take part in the decision-making process every step of the way and, now, we feel that this is exactly the Tequila we sought out to create almost two years ago." Produced in Jalisco, Mexico, using 100% blue weber agave, Villa One will launch in the US in September with an un-aged silver bottling as well as aged reposado and añejo Tequilas. The bottle for Villa One was designed by Jonas and Varvatos, with each expression featuring fine jewellery-inspired metalwork around the neck.. Varvatos added: "The experience Nick and I have shared in creating the Villa One spirit has been incredible. We believe the Villa One bottle mirrors the 'life as it should be' mentality of celebrating good times with family and friends." The brand's silver Tequila has a nose of cooked agave and a “continuous bouquet of dried fruit with a long, smooth finish”, the reposado bottling is a light gold liquid with “balanced butterscotch and oak flavours”, and the añejo is aged for more than 12 months to produce “rich caramel notes with vanilla wafer and banana essences”. Each Tequila is bottled at 40% ABV. The silver, reposado and añejo expressions are priced at US$44.99, US$49.99 and US$59.99 respectively. There has been a boom in celebrities launching agave spirits over the last 12 months, with Rita Ora unveiling her Próspero Tequila brand, Sex and the City actor Chris Noth acquiring a majority stake in Ambhar and Hobbs & Shaw star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson teasing the launch of his Mana Tequila brand.
