Maverick Distilling marks San Antonio rodeo
Texas-based Maverick Distilling is celebrating the San Antonio rodeo's 75th birthday with a limited edition whiskey.
Maverick Distilling has released Samuel Maverick Double Barrel Bourbon Rodeo Edition, which pays homage to the 75th anniversary of the San Antonio rodeo this year. The 2024 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo event kicked off yesterday (8 February) and will run until 25 February at the Frost Bank Center. The certified Texas whiskey was pot distilled in Texas from a mash of 72% Texas-grown corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. It was aged on site for two to three years before receiving an 18-month finish in barrels that previously held Samuel Maverick Private Reserve Bourbon Whiskey. “The rodeo gives so much to the people of San Antonio with bull riding, concerts, and excellent cuisine. It brings people together from all over Texas to celebrate and share this rich tradition,” said Dr Kenneth Maverick, co-founder of San Antonio-based Maverick Distilling. “The rodeo and western heritage have an important place in the fabric of San Antonio’s history, and we are paying homage to the cowboy and all of the rodeo volunteers who keep this heritage alive.” Only 107 bottles are available for purchase at the San Antonio distillery. The whiskey is bottled at a barrel proof of 57.5% ABV and priced at US$75. It has notes of creme brûlée and cola on the palate, with vanilla and caramel on the nose. In May 2022, the Texas distiller introduced a “traditionally Mexican” Agave Blanco to the US market. The expression was named one of our top 50 most innovative spirits launches of 2022.
