Massingberd-Mundy unveils oak-aged gin

by Alice Brooker

English distillery Massingberd-Mundy has released 150 bottles of a cask-aged gin under its Burrell's brand.

To make Burrell's Oak Aged Gin, the producer's flagship London Dry expression has been finished in casks made from the oak of a local tree. The batch will roll out on a limited basis. Massingberd-Mundy's head distiller, Tristan Jørgensen said: “Last summer we launched our first two gins, Burrell’s and Marie Jeanne’s, and the reception from customers, reviewers and the wider drinks industry has been amazing. "This year, we’re doing something a little different and launching three exciting new gins in very limited numbers." Two more limited edition gins will be launched later this year, with 150 bottlings available of each batch. Jørgensen added: “The gins will demonstrate the huge variety of flavours and styles of gin and set out to offer a unique twist to the country’s favourite spirit. "I’m really enjoying the process of creating these limited edition bottles and I can’t wait for people to taste them – starting with our rich, smoky and sweet Burrell’s Oak Aged Gin, which goes on sale this month.” The aged gin is infused with Tahitian vanilla, and contains notes of caramel, vanilla, toast and oak. The 43% ABV small batch release is available online from today (13 August) from the South Ormsby Estate website, for an RRP of £39 (US$53.84) per 700ml bottling.
