Margot Robbie debuts Papa Salt gin
Actress Margot Robbie has launched Papa Salt gin as an ode to the laid-back Australian lifestyle.
The Wolf of Wall Street actress created the coastal gin brand with her husband, Tom Ackerley, and their film industry friends Charlie Maas, Josey McNamara and Regan Riskas. Papa Salt was inspired by the Australian coast, and is described on the brand’s website as an 'easy-drinking gin that celebrates the subtle taste of native Australian botanicals'. The friends are said to have created 59 variations of the spirit over five years, and the final product incorporates oyster shells, roasted wattleseed and pink peppercorn among other native Australian botanicals. Flavours are brightened with wax flower, hibiscus and citrus peel. The gin was named after Papa Salt, a man from the Californian coastline whom the group met while travelling and who embodied the Australian slang term for a beach bum: salty sea dog. The gin has been created for ‘sessionable drinking’ and the brand’s recommended serve is Papa Salt with soda, lots of ice and a wedge of fresh grapefruit. The gin is bottled at 43% ABV and is made in Byron Bay, Australia. It is available to purchase via Iconic Beverages for RRP AU$85 (US$56.86). This week, the brand’s launch party took place at Sydney bar Maybe Sammy, which was recently acquired by Australian hospitality group Public. Robbie is the third celebrity in as many weeks to have launched a gin brand, joining Little Women actress Emma Watson, and Fight Club actor Brad Pitt.
