London distillery releases 400-day-aged gin

The East London Liquor Company (ELLC) is set to release its final barrel-aged gin of 2017 – a 400-day-matured expression.

The East London distillery has left its London Dry Gin to mature in ex-Sherry casks for 400 days. The gin leaves the casks with aromas of "orange zest, gingersnap cookies and chocolate-covered coffee beans", with flavours of "bright citrus and baking spices such as cloves and allspice on the palate". Bottled at 46.1% abv, the new release is the latest in the ELLC's line of barrel aged gins, which started in January 2016 and has seen up to four limited-edition barrel-aged gins released throughout each year. Past barrel-aged releases from the ELLC have included gins aged in ex-rye whiskey barrels and French oak casks. The latest barrel-aged release will be available from 1 December, with just 401 bottles being released. Bottles will cost £49 (US$65) and will be available direct from the ELLC, as well as bottle shops across the capital. ELLC is the 'first' distillery to launch in East London in more than 100 years and currently produces a range of gins and vodkas, and will release its first rye whisky in 2018.
