Loch Lomond launches whiskies to mark The Open

by Amy Hopkins

Highland Scotch whisky Loch Lomond has launched a trio of single malts to mark its new partnership with The Open golf championship.

Loch Lomond singed a five-year deal to become the ‘spirit of The Open’ earlier this year. The three limited edition bottlings are: Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition, Loch Lomond The Open Course Collection Carnoustie 1999, and Loch Lomond 1999 Vintage Autograph Edition. Priced at £36, Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition (46% abv) uses specially-selected spirit distilled from wine yeast fermentations and showcases four different spirit styles. Loch Lomond The Open Course Collection Carnoustie 1999 has an abv of 47.2% and an RRP of £150. Inspired by the Carnoustie golf course, which will host the 147th Open this July, the whisky is comprised of liquid distilled in 1999. Master blender Michael Henry collaborated with professional golfer Colin Montgomerie to select the casks used. Loch Lomond 1999 Vintage Autograph Edition (50.8% abv), priced at £150, is the result of a collaboration between Henry and golfer Paul Lawrie and is also a bottling of 1999 casks. All three whiskies will be available from the end of June and will also be available to buy at The Open in July. "Loch Lomond Whiskies is 'the spirit of The Open' and we‘re proud to unveil three remarkable single malts to celebrate golf’s original championship,“ said Henry. "These whiskies pay tribute to Loch Lomond’s fruity distillery character and are bottled in the traditional artisanal manner – non-chill-filtered at higher strength – to provide a richer mouth feel and a deeper more complex flavour."
