Laphroaig Launches 28 Year Old Whisky

by The Staff

Laphroaig has come out with a new Scotch on the higher end of the age-statement scale.

The Islay distillery has announced Laphroaig 28 Year Old.

This whisky first matured in different-size casks, from quarter casks to butts, before blending and then finishing in sherry casks for 12 months.

On the nose is peat with grilled dates, honey and light licorice, the company reports, plus notes of Islay heather, dry thyme and rosemary. The palate contains sweet flavors of  baked pears and vanilla notes complemented by salted toffee, burnt wood, grilled meat and ground black pepper, the company says, before a finish of dried spices, cedar and lingering peat.

Laphroaig 28 Year Old is 88.8 proof.

The suggested retail price is $799 per 750-ml. bottle.
