Kavalan unveils its first age-statement whisky

Taiwanese distillery Kavalan is set to launch its first single malt with an age statement – a limited edition 15-year-old.

Released as part of the distillery's Time Exploration series the whisky honours the historic moment when Kavalan and Taiwan commenced whisky production. On 11 March 2006, the first drops of Taiwanese-made spirit flowed from the stills. The new 15-year-old Kavalan single malt is aged in four casks: ex-Bourbon, oloroso Sherry, Ruby Port, and a puncheon. The whisky displays aromas of caramel apple mousse, fresh chocolate, walnut cinnamon rolls, creamy popcorn, dried tangerine peel and plum. The palate is said to offer notes of bergamot, lemon, orange, grapefruit, dried cranberries, raisins, longan, dark chocolate gelato and caramel walnut coffee mousse. The 15-year-old is offered at 43% ABV and there will be 30,000 bottles available globally. YT Lee, CEO of Kavalan, said: “We wanted to achieve extraordinary depth and balance with multiple layers of complexity befitting a high-age statement whisky. "So, we created a formula based on a four-cask maturation that would maximise the characteristics of each cask and achieve a rich harmony in the final product.” The packaging features a natural wood grain design. The bottle design embodies the concept of 'fusion', created from four different cask types, with textured oak patterns symbolising their unique characteristics. The gold-foiled Kavalan logo aims to add a touch of luxury and sophistication to the release. Kavalan 15-Year-Old 2025 Edition is available through Kavalan’s official channels in Taiwan, including the distillery shopKavalan whisky shops and whisky bars, as well as at select local liquor stores.  Last month, Kavalan completed its ‘Sherry family’ of Solist whiskies with a Palo Cortado cask-aged single malt. Earlier this year, the distillery launched its annual limited edition gift sets and created two Grand Reserve expressions exclusively for Lotte Duty Free.
