Jura debuts new Sherry range

Whyte & Mackay-owned Jura Distillery has begun a new series of Sherry-finished whiskies, the first being a 12-year-old aged in oloroso casks.

The new Scotch is bottled at 46% ABV and made with natural colour and non-chill filtration. Jura Distillery’s light new-make spirit, which has flavours of stone fruit and coastal qualities, is first aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. It then has a second maturation in a combination of American and European oak oloroso Sherry hogsheads. The brand’s whisky makers were inspired by the Spanish culture of ‘sobremesa’, described as the ‘high value placed on spending quality time together’ and literally translated as ‘over the table’. The whisky is designed to be ‘best enjoyed after a meal, shared with great conversation’. The pack’s design features hints of Andalusian mosaic tiles in a nod to the oloroso Sherry finish. The packaging also reflects the brand’s redesign, which debuted in August 2025 and aimed to make whisky more accessible. As such, the bottle features a ‘tasting device’ on the back that highlights its notes of prune, walnut and dried citrus. Jura 12 Year Old Oloroso Edition is available for £50 (US$67) from specialist whisky shops and online. The new series will continue in September with the launch of a 15-year-old whisky aged in Manzanilla Sherry. Last summer, we headed to the Scottish island of Jura to visit the distillery.
