Johnny Depp moves into spirits with Three Hearts Rum
Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has entered the spirits industry with a Caribbean rum brand called Three Hearts.
The American actor, known for playing pirate Jack Sparrow in the
Pirates of the Caribbean
series, among many other film credits, has launched the brand with longtime friend Bobby DeLeon. Three Hearts was first teased on Instagram in a joint post by Depp and the brand at the end of 2025, and is said to have been ‘years in development’. The first rum in the Three Hearts range is a seven-year-aged expression that was produced in the Dominican Republic at an undisclosed distillery. It is said to have been produced using 'time-honoured rum-making methods' and spent five years in ex-Bourbon barrels with a ‘touch of Oloroso influence’, before being casked for a further two years of ageing in ex-Cognac barrels. The launch of Three Hearts is inspired by Depp’s decades-long connection to the Caribbean, where the actor has spent much time. He said: “Rum holds the history of the islands. It’s shaped by the hands of the people who grow the cane, ferment the spirit and age it over time. “Bobby and I wanted to create something that honored that tradition and the friendships that inspired it.” The Three Hearts First Edition is available now for pre-order on the brand’s website for US$69.99 in the US, with delivery scheduled for the end of the first quarter of 2026. The first edition will be followed by more releases in the future, the brand noted, which will highlight the distinctive styles and cultural heritage of rum-making regions across the Caribbean. “We didn’t want to rush something into the world,” DeLeon added. “This rum represents years of patience and collaboration. Our goal was to create something that respected the heritage of Caribbean rum while sharing the spirit of the friendship that started it.” The bottle itself has been designed by Depp and features symbolism from his personal tattoos. Depp sketched the shape of how he wanted the bottle to look, as well as its details and illustrations. The bottle features a skull that serves as a ‘reminder of life’s brevity – to live fully’, a lightning bolt to symbolise enduring friendship, and the number three, which ‘represents new beginnings’. The three hearts on the bottle's side are said to represent the loves of his life. Additionally, a bracelet-style charm encircles the bottle's neck, while its base is inscribed with the brand’s guiding motto, 'No fear. No malice. No envy'.
