Jack Daniel’s makes Heritage Barrel permanent

Brown-Forman-owned Tennessee whiskey brand Jack Daniel's has added Heritage Barrel to its permanent Single Barrel lineup.

The Heritage Barrel, which utilises 'a barrel toasting technique to create a unique and rich character', has previously only been available as a special release in 2018 and 2019. Chris Fletcher, master distiller at the Jack Daniel Distillery, said: "The way our barrels are built and our ability to experiment are two of the most important parts of the Jack Daniel's whiskey-making tradition. "It was exciting for us to see what our heritage barrels produced with previous limited releases, and we're thrilled to bring that same unforgettable flavour to more friends with this permanent offering." The expression is made with Jack Daniel's classic mashbill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye, and dripped through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. Barrels are crafted using a high-toast, low-char technique inspired by traditional barrel-making practices. This method is said to create a deeper toasted layer before the barrels are charred. The whiskey is then placed in Heritage Barrels at a lower ABV of 50% and matured in some of the highest-elevated barrel houses located in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Each barrel may vary in age, but all Single Barrel Heritage Barrels are aged for a minimum of seven years. Cut down to 50% ABV before bottling, the expression displays notes of oak, honey, candied fruit, and brown sugar. Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey is now available nationwide in the US in 750ml bottles, with a suggested retail price of $69.99. An international rollout will follow the US launch in the coming months.
