Firkin Gin unveils 1,000-day-old barrel-aged bottling

by Melita Kiely

The Gleann Mór Spirits Company has launched the first limited-edition bottling of its cask-aged Firkin Gin, which has been matured for 1,000 days.

The 2018 limited edition is a blend of rye and London Dry style gin, which has been left to age in ex-Côtes du Rhône barrels, made from American and French oak. Bottled at 48% abv, the gin is said to have aromas of spices, wet grass, coriander and lime. The palate is described as warm, thick and malty, with rye spice and “strong” juniper, plum and grapefruit notes, with a long spice and citrus finish. The 1,000-day-old Firkin Gin is available directly from the Gleann Mór Spirits Company and select retailers throughout the UK, with an RRP of £49 (US$68) per 700ml. Independent bottler and retailer Gleann Mór Spirits Company has been bottling barrel-aged gin since 2015. In July last year, the firm released the first expression in its new ‘geographical’ gin range, called Leith Gin.
