Espanita unveils double barrel-aged Tequila
Tequila brand Espanita has kicked off its Barrel Reserve Collection with the launch of a limited edition reposado expression.
Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, Espanita Double Barrel Reposado Tequila was matured in American white oak casks before being finished in Bourbon barrels from Kentucky. The Tequila sits at 40% ABV and will retail for US$42.99 per 750ml bottle. Marina Wilson, president and founder of Espanita Tequila, said: “We believe that it is innovation that is one of the main driving forces behind an incredible growth of Tequila popularity in the last years that made this iconic spirit a beverage of choice for American consumers. “We shall continue our experimentation with creative barrelling and maturation approaches in hopes to bring more exciting flavour expressions to blue agave fans soon.” Tasting notes include aromas of orange zest, apricot chutney, toasted honey oak, Cherry Heering and vanilla bean. On the palate, the Tequila is said to have flavours of roasted agave, cherry cola, spiced nuts, and candied ginger, leading to a finish filled with toasted coconut, apple wood, and hazelnut spread. The next edition in the Barrel Reserve Collection will be Bourbon barrel-finished Double Barrel Espanita Añejo Tequila, which is scheduled for release in the second half of 2023. Wilson launched Espanita Tequila in 2017. The brand’s portfolio includes blanco, reposado and añejo Tequilas. Earlier this year, data from IWSR Drinks Market Analysis showed Tequila has surpassed American whiskey in value sales to become the second most valuable spirit category in the US. Not only this, but IWSR expects Tequila will overtake vodka, which currently holds the number one position, by the end of this year. Agave spirits contributed US$1.6 billion to the spirits industry in 2022, IWSR noted. This growth was responsible for 70% of the overall volume growth and 65% of overall value growth of total US spirits.
