Drumshanbo debuts pineapple gin

Aug 15, 2024by Ted Simmons

The latest variant from Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin harnesses the flavours of native Brazilian pineapples.

Founder PJ Rigney was inspired after a trip to Natal, Brazil, during the country’s Carnival celebration. While touring the region, he was introduced to Brazilian pineapples, known locally as the ‘abacaxi’. Returning to The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim, Drumshanbo, Ireland, Rigney recalled the vibrant flavours of the fruit as well as its green and yellow hues, which are reflected in the packaging. The new gin was then distilled with oriental botanicals, gunpowder tea, and a vapour infusion of Brazilian pineapple, grapefruit, and lime. Brazilian Pineapple is bottled at 43% ABV and priced at US$37. The gin will roll out across the US starting 1 September. Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin first launched in 2016, and has expanded its range to include a variety of flavours in the years since. Brazilian Pineapple now joins Sardinian Citrus and Californian Orange Citrus in addition to the flagship gin.  Earlier this year, African spirits group Spearhead launched Bayab Palm & Pineapple, a gin crafted from botanicals solely grown in Africa. And if that isn’t enough pineapple for summertime, we have 10 Piña Colada facts to celebrate National Rum Day this Friday (16 August).
