Douglas Laing unveils second cask strength Rock Oyster
Douglas Laing is set to release a “monstrously maritime” second edition of its cask strength Rock Oyster blended Scotch to mark National Oyster Day.
The second release in a two-part series, Rock Oyster Cask Strength #2 has been exclusively matured in American oak and bottled at 56.1% abv without caramel colouring or chill filtration. The high abv whisky is described as having flavours of “flambéed orange peel, rich earthiness, puffs of drifting peat smoke and salty tang” on the palate. A total of 8,400 bottles have been created priced at £49.99 (US$65.50) per 700ml. It will be available from specialist whisky retailers from August to coincide with National Oyster Day on 5 August. Chris Leggat, chief executive officer of Douglas Laing, said: “It’s true what they say – calm seas never made skilled sailors – nor did they make monstrously maritime whiskies. “This is a spectacularly stormy, rich and earthy dram to pair with shellfish on National Oyster Day.”
