Douglas Laing launches The Gauldrons Batch 3

Family-owned Scotch whisky bottler Douglas Laing has released the third batch of The Gauldrons in time for Halloween, which is a vatting of Campbeltown single malts.

‘The Gauldrons’ means ‘bay of storms’, and batch three of the release has been bottled at 46.2% abv. It is available in limited quantities from specialist retailers globally from October at an RRP of £50 (US$65). The packaging features a foil-detailed compass, web and spider to evoke a spooky, autumnal vibe. The nose is said to have aromas of salt, sweet cereals and “gentle” peat smoke, leading to a maritime palate with sugar, barley and oak flavours. The finish combines smoke, rock pools and dark sugar flavours. Cara Laing, director of whisky at Douglas Laing, said: “October is now officially upon us and we are all looking for the bolder flavours of autumn. “With a perfect balance of sweet and pear, our Gauldrons Campbeltown Malt is the perfect accompaniment to a sophisticated Halloween party or sipped around a bonfire with friends.” Douglas Laing is celebrating 70 years in 2018 and has launched numerous anniversary bottlings to mark the occasion, including two new single cask whiskies last month: a six-year-old Caol Ila and a 25-year-old Glen Garioch. The company has also released a 40-year-old single grain single cask whisky from the closed Port Dundas Distillery in honour of its anniversary. In May, Chris Leggat was appointed CEO of Douglas Laing, as company owner Fred Laing moved to the position of chairman.
