Douglas Laing launches Black Series with 1994 Springbank
Independent Scotch bottler Douglas Laing has extended its Xtra Old Particular (XOP) single cask range with the launch of XOP The Black Series.
The first release under The Black Series banner is a 1994 Springbank single cask Scotch whisky, priced at RRP £800 (US$1,014). Only 148 bottles have been created, which will be made available across Europe and Asia. XOP The Black Series Springbank Vintage 1994 was matured in an ex-Sherry hogshead and has been bottled at cask strength (47.7% abv). Tasting notes include dark fruit, “subtle” smoke, leather and chocolate. Cara Laing, director of whisky at Douglas Laing, said: “This Springbank ‘black beauty’ is an extraordinary encapsulation of everything our family business proudly represents: quality, luxury and the utmost attention to detail. “The maiden release in this new single cask series certainly sets an exceptionally high benchmark for future bottlings and we are poised to rise to the challenge.” Douglas Laing celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, which concluded with the launch of a 1982 vintage Port Ellen and a 26-year-old Big Peat bottling.
