Cotswolds unveils Birmingham-exclusive whisky

English producer Cotswolds Distillery has launched a limited edition single cask whisky exclusively for Birmingham Airport.

The whisky was matured in a first-fill reconditioned red wine cask, which was filled on 20 April 2018 and then bottled on 30 January 2026. The process took place entirely on-site at the distillery with the whisky made from 100% locally grown Cotswolds barley. The cask was number 2,246 and the whisky was bottled at 61.9% ABV. There were 275 bottles drawn from the cask, which are now available exclusively at Birmingham Airport and individually numbered at an RRP of £99 (US$131). Eve Fifer, commercial director UK at Avolta, said: “We are proud to be the exclusive global travel retail partner for this single cask release from Cotswolds Distillery. Our customers at Birmingham Airport are always looking for something distinctive and memorable, and this limited-edition delivers exactly that.” The single cask whisky is available alongside the distillery’s core products at the airport, which includes the Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky, Cotswolds Reserve Single Malt Whisky, and Cotswolds Dry Gin. The products are being showcased in several displays in the airport through April, and are also available for travellers to sample. Commercial director of Birmingham Airport, Richard Gill, added: “We are delighted to be the sole stockist of the limited edition single cask whisky exclusively created by our partners Cotswolds Distillery and available only in our World Duty Free store. “We pride ourselves on partnering with local brands ensuring that customers can take a little bit of the Midlands with them wherever they’re travelling to.” The single cask whisky’s notes include cherries, chocolate and baking spices on the nose, while figs, plums, milk chocolate and cinnamon come from the palate. The finish is said to feature creamy red fruit, spiced cherries and sweet tannins. Commercial director at Cotswolds Distillery, Kerrin Egalka, commented: “We are thrilled to partner with our longstanding supporters Avolta on the release of this exceptional single cask. “There is huge momentum within the English whisky category and as the world’s best-selling English single malt whisky producer, we will continue to fuel this growth.” Cotswolds Distillery first launched in travel retail in July 2018, in Birmingham, Bristol and East Midlands airports in the UK. The English distillery recently signalled its intent to expand in the global travel retail space through a partnership with Sipwell Brands. So far this year, the brand has offered the chance to win visits to its distillery, while founder Daniel Szor returned to the CEO role in late January. In some of the distillery's more experimental releases from the past year, it has launched a limited edition single malt aged in Port and Bourbon casks, and a whisky aged in Calvados casks. A geographical indication for English whisky is said to be in its final stages.
