Cotswolds and M&H honour Jim Swan
English producer Cotswolds Distillery has partnered with Israeli whisky maker Milk & Honey (M&H) to create a blended malt in commemoration of Dr Jim Swan.
The collaborative limited edition blended malt whisky was released on 24 July in the UK market. The blend of malt whiskies from select casks from both distilleries honours Swan and celebrates his lasting impact and legacy. Swan passed away unexpectedly in 2017, but his expertise is recognised as 'crucial to the success and growth of both distilleries and the whisky industry'. "Working with Cotswolds Distillery on this project has been a wonderful experience," said Gal Kalkshtein, founder and CEO of M&H Distillery. "This limited edition blend is a testament to Dr Swan's enduring impact on the whisky industry, and we are proud to offer a whisky that honours his legacy. Dr Swan played a significant role in founding M&H, and his influence is deeply embedded in our distillery's ethos." The limited release offers aromas of 'apple puff pastry, pale syrup, pear and cinnamon', followed by notes of 'fresh coconut, juicy plums and rich figs' on the palate. The commemorative release is limited to 700 bottles offered at 50% ABV with a retail price of £125 (US$161) for a 700ml bottle. Swan is celebrated as a pioneer in the world of whisky. His work revolutionised the approach to whisky maturation, especially through his development of the STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) cask technique. His pioneering and distinctive techniques facilitated the production of rich, nuanced whiskies from a young age, significantly impacting distilleries worldwide. Earlier this year, Cotswolds Distillery released Traitor's Ford rye whisky and debuted a digital gin campaign for Cotswolds Dry Gin.
