Copper Fox to ‘cut down on confusion’ with new design

Virginia-based spirits producer Copper Fox Distillery has unveiled a refreshed look for its portfolio and added a new rye whiskey to its range.

The American distiller, which has sites in Williamsburg and Sperryville in Virginia, said its new design creates a more cohesive image for its various expressions. Rick Wasmund, founder and master distiller at Copper Fox Distillery, said: “The new packaging and label design better organises our current product portfolio, better communicates our rich brand story at the shelf, and helps cut down on confusion as it didn’t seem that people understood our Copper Fox Rye and Wasmund’s Single Malt were from the same distillery.” At the same time, Copper Fox has added a 100% rye whiskey to its portfolio. Copper Fox Sassy Rye has been distilled with 100% Virginia rye grains, which have been floor-malted and smoked with Virginia sassafras wood. The whiskey has been aged in new oak Bourbon barrels that contain applewood oak chips, before finishing in a second-fill Bourbon cask. The new release is said to have aromas of anise, cinnamon and root beer, a "smoky spiciness" on the palate leading to flavours of dried cranberries and black liquorice. Bottled at 45% abv Sassy Rye is priced at US$56.99 per 750ml bottle.
