Caskade collaborates with Deacon Blue
Independent bottler Caskade has released Born in a Storm, its debut single malt whisky created in collaboration with Scottish pop band Deacon Blue.
Caskade is a Glasgow-based collective that specialises in limited edition drinks releases. The brand works in collaboration with celebrated artists and world-renowned drinks makers to produce bespoke small batch bottlings alongside delivering live cultural events. Born in a Storm was distilled at a secret location on Orkney before spending 13 years ageing in a single cask. The single malt was then finished in an ex-oloroso Sherry cask chosen by the members of Deacon Blue to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their 1987 debut album Raintown. A statement from the band reads: “We are delighted to celebrate 35 years of Raintown with this special limited edition whisky, bottled by Glasgow's own Caskade. Born in a Storm is a bold and enduring spirit which serves as an apt reflection of the people and places it was inspired by and a perfect accompaniment to the record.” The whisky is described as boasting a symphony of classic Orkney character and bold oloroso Sherry notes. It has been bottled at 48.2% ABV. The label is adorned with a bespoke, original watercolour design inspired by the ‘wild natural spirit of the Orkney islands’. The deep blues have been designed to resemble a storm crashing onto the coastline in a bid to ‘conjure an instantly familiar vision of Scotland’. Launching today (30 November), the limited edition run of 853 individually numbered bottles is now available to purchase via caskadedrinks.com for RRP £94.95 (US$113.91). Recently, Smirnoff vodka teamed up with English band Gorillaz to create a limited edition bottle and four cocktail recipes.
