Caisteal Chamuis Blended Malt Scotch
Mossburn Distillers has launched Caisteal Chamuis (“Castle Camus,” for non-Gaelic speakers). The new expressions are imported and available through Marussia Beverages USA. The two new releases are detailed below.
Caisteal Chamuis 12 Year Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (suggested retail price: $62 per 750-ml. bottle)
Double barreled Sherry finish
Aged for 12 years in refill American Oak Hogsheads
First re-aged in American Oak 230-liter barrels that held Oloroso for five years
Secondly re-aged in specially coopered European Oak 500-liter butts, which form their own aging solera and were seasoned with Oloroso Sherry in Spain
18.7ppm residual
The company reports the tasting notes as follows:
Nose: The first note is one of beeswax and boiled sweets, then light peat undertones with hints of coal tar.
Palate: Soft and smooth. Peaty, but not medicinal, a heathery, lavender-like peat. Floral and sweet coal tar notes emerging, with a finish of cherry, crystallized fruit, more peat, and oily beeswax.
Caisteal Chamuis Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (suggested retail price: $43 per 750-ml. bottle)

12ppm residual
