Sazerac-owned Buffalo Trace Distillery has welcomed a 12-year-old straight Bourbon to its Eagle Rare range.

The new age-statement Eagle Rare joins the label's permanent range following the completion of Buffalo Trace Distillery's decade-long US$1.2 billion construction project. Harlen Wheatley, master distiller of Buffalo Trace, said: “This whiskey represents more than just time in the barrel – it’s the result of years of dedication, innovation, and an unwavering commitment from our entire team. "The investments we’ve made – in time, resources and effort – have allowed us to explore new possibilities in ageing and flavour, and this release is a proud reflection of that journey.” Made with the same mashbill number one as its 10-year-old predecessor, the 12-year-old expression is offered at a slightly higher ABV of 47.5%. The whiskey displays aromas of oak and hints of almonds, followed on the palate by subtle vanilla, toasted oak, and toffee notes. Andrew Duncan, global brand director at Buffalo Trace Distillery, commented: “At Buffalo Trace Distillery, we believe there are no shortcuts to create outstanding whiskey – there is no substitute for quality time spent in the barrel. With Eagle Rare, we are always striving but never satisfied, constantly experimenting to enable better-tasting age-stated Bourbons. “When it was introduced, Kentucky straight Bourbon whiskey brought higher quality standards to whiskey around the world; now, Eagle Rare pushes the bounds of age, stating excellence in Bourbon.” Eagle Rare 12 Year Old will be available at select retailers, bars, and restaurants across the US starting June 2025, with a suggested retail price of US$49.99 for a 750ml bottle. The release will be available on international markets in autumn 2025 following the initial rollout. The new expression joins the label's selection of Bourbons, including the original 10-year-old, Double Eagle Very Rare, Eagle Rare 25 Year Old, and Eagle Rare 17 Year Old, an annual limited release under Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection.
