Brugal launches coffee-inspired rum
Dominican rum brand Brugal has launched the second iteration of its limited-edition sipping rum collection, Colección Visionaria Edición 02 Coffee, in the UK.
The Colección Visionaria Edición series honours the Dominican Republic's rich ingredients, with the first edition –released in August last year – paying tribute to cacao. Colección Visionaria Edición 02 is inspired by the country's coffee-growing heritage and coffee culture, which includes a shared ‘cafecito’ moment where loved ones gather over coffee. Developed by fifth-generation Maestra Ronera, Jassil Villanueva Quintana, Colección Visionaria Edición 02, Coffee, uses Brugal’s innovative, world-first, aromatic cask toasting technique to bring out the flavours of Dominican Arabica coffee. The French Oak casks are gently toasted with coffee beans, infusing the spirit with 'robust' flavours. The beans develop a dense, flavourful profile and are cultivated in rich, fertile soils, which benefit from the cool, high-altitude climate in the Dominican Republic. Offered at 45% ABV, Colección Visionaria Edición 02, Coffee displays aromas of caramel layered with bitter dark chocolate, sweet vanilla and subtle smoky hints on the nose. Cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg on the palate then give way to 'delicate hints of dried fruits and deep coffee' flavour'. Each batch of the bottling is handcrafted and presented in bottles wrapped in navy blue netting. The label displays the batch number, and each bottle is sealed by hand and personally signed by Villanueva Quintana. With only six batches produced, the expression is limited to 35,000 bottles worldwide. Villanueva Quintana said: “Many stories and laughs have been shared over a cherished cafecito in the Dominican Republic. It is these warm moments and nostalgic aromas that we wanted to recreate in Colección Visionaria Edición 02. "This new rum is a celebration of shared moments and memories, an invitation to enjoy the warmth of good company and the rich, inviting flavours of our homeland." Colección Visionaria Edición 02, Coffee retails for £80 (US$105) and is now available in the UK from Berry Bros & Rudd, Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange. Earlier this year, Brugal unveiled an ultra-premium rum, Maestro Reserva.
