Bonnington reveals Sherry Cask release

Halewood Artisanal Spirits has launched a Sherry-cask-matured whisky from Bonnington distillery in Edinburgh.

The small batch Lowland single malt whisky release has been aged exclusively in five ex-Pedro Ximénez (PX) Sherry casks. “I am delighted to follow up our inaugural launch with this very nice Sherry cask release. The liquid itself is something we’re really proud of – aged in PX casks and cut at 47% ABV, it’s bold, rich and full of flavour,” said Jamie Lockhart, distillery manager at Bonnington. On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of ‘sweet sugar, pick and mix, fresh oak and green wood’, followed by notes of ‘fresh, subtle red fruits, lightly dusted sugar on berries and tannins’ on the palate. “We carefully selected five PX casks from our inventory for this bottling, and I am delighted with the result. Our plan with Bonnington releases is to keep them in small batches. We have exciting ideas for 2024 with further limited bottlings planned,” said master blender Jill Boyd. Limited to only 250 cases, Bonnington Sherry Cask will be available at specialist whisky retailers over the next few weeks, including Master of Malt, Hard to Find Whisky and The Whisky Exchange. Offered at 47% ABV in 700ml bottles, the limited release will retail for RRP £50-£55 (US$64-US$70). Crabbie & Co whisky is made at Bonnington distillery; the brand became the first single malt to be produced in Edinburgh in nearly a century. Family-owned Halewood Artisanal Spirits has a broad portfolio of spirits, including Whitley Neill Gin, Dead Man’s Fingers rum, and whisky brands Aber Falls, Bankhall and Samuel Gelston’s.
