Black Lines ditches Aperol
Ready-to-serve (RTS) cocktail company Black Lines has reimagined one of its most popular cocktails, which will now be called the Aperitivo Spritz and feature Gamondi Aperitivo.
The result is a ‘better-rounded, more orange-forward Spritz’, according to the brand. Gamondi Aperitivo is made at Toso, a 120-year-old, family-run distillery and winery in Piedmont in northern Italy, which uses ‘innovative, forward-thinking and sustainable practices’. Black Lines said the move away from Campari Group-owned Aperol allows it to remove 20,000 single-use glass bottles from production runs every year, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The new Aperitivo will be available in bottles alongside its regular 20-litre keg format for the first time. As well as Gamondi Aperitivo, the serve features a crisp sparkling wine and a top of soda, bottled at 8% ABV. A 750ml bottle will retail for £19 (US$25). Black Lines co-founder Casey Sorenson said: “From the start of our conversations with Toso there’s been a clear, shared understanding in our approach to drinks, production and innovation. We can’t wait to bring their work into ours. “Gamondi is orange-forward, round and delivers a more complex Spritz. We see the Black Lines take as the new modern Aperitivo, and we are excited for it to land just in time for summer.” Black Lines was founded by Sorenson and Kuleen Khimasia in 2017. Its core range includes a Spicy Tommy’s Margarita, a Hugo Spritz, and a Shirley Temple. It also creates limited edition expressions, such as a White Negroni in 2024 and an Oatnog for Christmas.
