Benromach launches peated Sherry cask-matured whisky

Speyside distillery Benromach has released a limited edition single malt Scotch whisky made with peated barley and matured in Sherry casks.

Only 6,500 bottles of Benromach Peat Smoke Sherry Cask Matured are being released in select markets globally today (8 March), priced at €74.99 (£64.99/US$85.25). It has an abv of 59.9% abv. The whisky was put into first-fill Sherry hogsheads in 2010 before being bottled in 2018. Tasting notes include a hint of white pepper, dried fruits and Sherry undertones. The finish is said to have a “seriously smoky edge”. Keith Cruickshank, Benromach distillery manager, said: “This is the first time Benromach has released a Sherried peat smoke expression and we’re very proud of its unique flavour profile. “This expression perfectly balanced the smokiness with the sweeter Sherry notes, giving a rise to a spectacularly rich and intense dram.” Last year, Benromach bottled the first whisky cask laid down when the site was brought back into production in 1998. The bottling marked 20 years since the distillery came back into operation, and proceeds from the whisky's sales were given to charity.
