Banditti Club rum expands range
The Glasgow Distillery has expanded its spirits portfolio with three limited edition Banditti Club Rums.
The three limited edition rums – a barrel-aged golden rum, a Pedro Ximénez (PX) Sherry cask finish, and Madeira wine cask finish – feature the distillery’s Banditti Club Rum at their core. The limited edition trio are made from naturally fermented rum. Alex Foulis, head distiller at The Glasgow Distillery, said: “These three new bold releases in our Banditti Club range follow on from our successful first forays into experimental rum, Banditti Club Port Cask Finish and Banditti Club Smoky Rogues. “This further expansion of our Banditti Club range is a testament to our ever-expanding range of innovative small-batch releases and highlights the creativity of our team, who continue to push and test the boundaries. These three new releases are all non-spiced, so the power of the casks used during maturation is truly allowed to shine. They are also all made from a naturally fermented base, allowing the natural yeast to provide additional depth and fruity character to all three. Foulis shared the specifics of each new limited edition: “Banditti Club Barrel Aged Golden Rum has been aged in virgin American white oak for three years and boasts notes of golden raisin, salted caramel, poached pears, toffee, honeycomb, oak, and freshly cut grass. “Banditti Club Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish is a single cask release that has been aged for three years in virgin oak with a six-month finish in a PX Sherry cask and features bold, deep notes of exquisite dark chocolate, espresso and cardamom, with a lingering candied orange zest and dark fruits. “Banditti Club Madeira Wine Cask Finish is also a single cask; this has been aged for three years in virgin oak with an 11-month finish in a Madeira wine cask, offering sweet notes of rich fruit cake, apricot, banana, gingerbread, and caramel.” Banditti Club Barrel Aged Golden Rum is limited to 659 bottles, Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish to 504 bottles, and Madeira Wine Cask Finish to 886 bottles. Priced at £30 (US$40), the three releases can now be purchased at the distillery's website and selected specialist retailers. Crafted in Glasgow, Banditti Club is made from rum distilled from freshly pressed sugar cane juice from the island of Madeira, which is then aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak casks. The core range Banditti Glasgow Spiced Rum is infused with fresh tropical fruit and exotic spices, including pineapple, orange, cacao and allspice. The brand was launched in 2018 and was named after a group of 'spirited individuals' who gathered in Glasgow's public houses in the early 19th century, enjoying nights filled with singing, eating, and music. Last year, we spoke to the co-founder of The Glasgow Distillery, Mike Hayward, about the ever-evolving whisky industry.
