English producer 820 Spirits has launched a 'bitters-style' gin distillate, Drop of Gin, designed to use in low-alcohol drinks.

The flavour enhancer is offered in a 50ml bottle, complete with a pipette for easy application. Drop of Gin has an ABV of 37.5%. However, when two full pipettes are added with a mixer, the drink is reported to result in a drink with an ABV of only 0.3%. The bottle contains 34 servings and does not expire once opened; it also does not need refrigeration. Tom Simpson, co-founder and chief distiller at 820 Spirits, said: “Sometimes, we all crave the taste of a G&T without the alcohol – whether at a working lunch, as the designated driver, or simply when you want something refreshing but low- or no-alcohol. At 820 Spirits, we’ve crafted the perfect solution to meet your needs in these moments. "A lot of lower-alcohol products are actually full of chemicals and citric acids, but our lower-alcohol gin is made in the same way as we make all of our products – all natural ingredients locally grown in the New Forest, Lymington, where our distillery and gin school are based." According to Simpson, Drops of Gin offers notes of juniper, sweet hibiscus, liquorice and citrus flavours. The gin drops are now available on the distillery's website for £30 (US$37). 820 Spirits Distillery, also known as Eight Two O, was established by brothers Tom and Jonny Simpson in 2021. The distillery is powered by solar panels and uses several sustainable, energy-saving distillation methods, including cold distillation of botanicals. In addition, water is sourced from an on-site borehole, and recyclable glass bottles come with biodegradable seals to avoid plastic packaging. 820 Spirits' gin range includes London Dry, pink, sloe, blackberry, and chocolate orange gin, and The Dawes blended aged rum.
