Casamigos was founded in 2013 by George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman — not as a business venture but as a personal project to create the tequila they actually wanted to drink. After three years and over 700 samples, they settled on a recipe built around 100% Blue Weber agave from the Jalisco Highlands, 72-hour brick oven roasting, and 80-hour fermentation — nearly double the industry standard — to develop the depth of flavor that fast fermentation strips away. Diageo acquired Casamigos in 2017 for up to $1 billion, the largest celebrity spirits acquisition at the time. Production methods have remained consistent with the original recipe.
All Casamigos expressions use Highland-grown agave from Jalisco's Los Altos region, where cooler temperatures and red clay soil produce agave with higher sugar concentration and a sweeter, fruitier character than Lowland agave. The 80-hour fermentation is the production detail that most distinguishes Casamigos from mainstream competitors — extended fermentation develops more complex flavor compounds before distillation, producing the smooth, rounded profile the brand is known for. Wooden Cork ships the full Casamigos lineup nationwide.
Casamigos Blanco — Unaged, rested briefly before bottling. Crisp and clean with sweet cooked agave, citrus, vanilla, and a hint of lime. The most agave-forward expression in the range and the best choice for cocktails — Margaritas, Palomas, and Ranch Waters specifically. Approachable enough for drinkers new to tequila, with genuine agave character for enthusiasts.
Casamigos Reposado — Aged 7 months in American oak barrels. The flagship expression and the one most responsible for the brand's mainstream appeal. The oak adds caramel, cocoa, and vanilla while the Highland agave sweetness stays prominent. Smooth enough to sip neat, complex enough to elevate cocktails. The most versatile expression in the range.
Casamigos Añejo — Aged 14 months in American oak — longer than the 12-month legal minimum and significantly longer than most mainstream añejo programs. The extended aging produces rich vanilla, butterscotch, and dried fruit over a warm oak base. The smoothest and most sipping-oriented expression in the core lineup.
Casamigos Cristalino — Añejo aged 14 months then filtered through activated charcoal to remove color while preserving the oak-derived complexity. The result is a clear tequila with the flavor depth of an añejo — smooth, elegant, and gift-ready. A growing category for drinkers who want aged complexity without the darker color.
Casamigos Mezcal — Produced from Espadín agave in Oaxaca using traditional pit-roasting. Smoky, earthy, and complex — a natural extension of the brand into the mezcal category for drinkers who want the Casamigos approachability with a smokier agave profile.

Casamigos was founded in 2013 by George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman. The name means "house of friends" in Spanish — a reference to the houses the founders owned in Cabo San Lucas, where the concept originated. The brand was acquired by Diageo in 2017 for up to $1 billion but continues to be produced using the original recipe and production specifications.
Three things set it apart at the production level: Highland-grown agave from Los Altos, Jalisco — sweeter and fruitier than Lowland agave; 72-hour brick oven roasting that develops deeper cooked agave character than faster autoclave methods; and 80-hour fermentation that nearly doubles the industry standard, allowing more complex flavor compounds to develop before distillation. The result is a reposado that tastes smoother and rounder than the price point suggests, which is what drove its mainstream adoption.
Both use the same Highland agave and production base — the difference is oak time. Reposado spends 7 months in American oak, producing caramel, cocoa, and vanilla with the agave still prominent. Añejo spends 14 months, developing richer vanilla, butterscotch, and dried fruit as the oak influence deepens and the raw agave character softens. Reposado is the more versatile expression for cocktails and everyday sipping; Añejo is better suited to sipping neat or on a single large ice cube.
Casamigos Blanco is one of the most popular margarita tequilas in the premium category — smooth enough to avoid harshness in the glass, with enough agave character to hold up against lime and triple sec. Casamigos Reposado also works well for elevated margaritas, adding caramel and vanilla depth. For a classic, clean margarita, use the Blanco. For a richer, more complex version, use the Reposado.
Wooden Cork carries the full Casamigos lineup — Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Cristalino, and Mezcal — with fast nationwide shipping and adult-signature delivery.
