Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey heads to UK

by Melita Kiely

Irish whiskey producer Teeling will launch the first commercial expression made at its Dublin-based distillery in the UK at The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show this weekend.

Only 600 bottles of the expression – the first new Dublin-distilled whiskey to be launched in nearly 50 years – will be made available across the UK through select retailers, including The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt and Milroy’s. The expression will also be rolled out to the US from December this year. It will be distributed in the UK by Maverick Drinks, which took over Teeling's distribution at the start of 2019. Available to order from the end of September, the expression is made from a recipe of 50% un-malted barley and 50% malted barley, and has been matured in virgin oak, ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks. The sky-blue packaging references the "colour of Dublin". It has been bottled at 46% ABV, without caramel colouring or chill filtration. It will carry and RRP of £49.95 (US$61). The new Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is said to have aromas of cinnamon on the nose with grapefruit, cream soda and roasted almonds. The palate is said to begin with notes of white pepper, leading to ripe kumquats, peaches and cream, and a hint of honey. The finish is described as dry with lingering spice and muscovado sugar. Stephen Teeling, co-owner and sales and marketing director at Teeling Whiskey, said: “When we launched Teeling Whiskey in 2012 our dream was to restore Dublin to its former whiskey distilling glory. “Launching our first commercial release to be distilled 100% at the new Dublin distillery completes this revival, and we hope it will be just the start of a new whiskey distilling renaissance in Dublin.”
