Spirit of Bermondsey creates low-abv ‘alternative to gin’

by Owen Bellwood

London-based Spirit of Bermondsey has launched Trinity 25, a lower-abv botanical spirit infused with cardamom, coriander and black pepper.

Bottled with an abv of 25%, Trinity 25 is said to be a “lighter alternative to gin” and is made with English grain spirit infused with juniper and three other spices to add “zesty” and “slightly spiced” flavours. Nick Johnson, founder of Spirit of Bermondsey, said: “As a long-time gin and botanical spirit fanatic, I wanted to create a drink that returns to the original ethos of gin. "At its heart, gin is a very simple and elegant drink, but recent trends have seen over complex mixes with 10, 15 or even 20 botanicals fighting for attention. It has also become overly strong, with up to 50% alcohol not uncommon. “With Trinity 25, I have created a spirit that is elegantly simple and a much lighter alternative to gin. There is no compromise on taste with Trinity 25, it is made with flavour at the forefront of its existence, and it’s lower alcohol content means it is a sociable drink for those who enjoy the delicious taste of spiced spirits.” The new product is said to “fill a clear gap in the market” for those looking for a low-alcohol alternative to gin. Trinity 25 is available to buy now from spiritofbermondsey.com for £31.99 (US$40) per bottle.
