Sphynx launches Tequila range
UK-based brand Sphynx has unveiled a range of Tequilas created to ‘epitomise sophistication’ and raise the bar for ‘true connoisseurs’.
Founded by couple Sukhvinder and Imran Javeed in Yorkshire, England, Sphynx Tequila is the result of a decade-long ‘journey’, which saw the pair immerse themselves in the heartland of Tequila production in Mexico. Their aim was to 'rediscover the authentic ways' of enjoying Tequila and to produce a spirit ‘so smooth that it would transcend expectations’. Sukhvinder explained: "Tequila has such a special place in my heart; my husband and I love the history, culture and traditions of Mexico and of course, their official spirit became our favourite. “We wanted to create a legacy brand and creating a Tequila was a natural choice for us. We are lucky to be working with a brilliant female-led distillery in the lowlands of Jalisco where we age our Tequila in custom wine barrels for a completely unique flavour profile. “It’s been a labour of love and we couldn’t be more excited to be officially launching Sphynx Tequila out in the world.” All the Tequilas in the Sphynx Tequila range are made with 100% Blue Weber agave and contain zero additives. The portfolio is composed of blanco, añejo, añejo cristalino, and extra aged añejo black oak expressions. Sphynx blanco is said to boast soft textures with notes of stewed agave and caramel, with a powerful herbaceous aroma. The añejo expression offers notes of dried fruits and toasted oak on the nose, while the extra aged añejo black oak bottling offers aromas of oak, caramel, vanilla and cooked agave. “Sphynx Tequila embraces the natural flavours of the finest agave, grown for a minimum of seven years. We chose to age our Tequila in various French oak barrels that allowed us to create custom profiles just for Sphynx Tequila, giving our drinkers a unique smooth flavour that allows you to simply pour it over ice, sip and enjoy.” Each bottle of Sphynx Tequila is presented in the brand’s custom decanter, which is made from 100% recycled glass. Symbolising good fortune and abundance, the decanter, described as a timeless piece of art, is said to serve as a centrepiece and conversation starter. "We wanted our Tequila profiles to reach you in an iconic decanter that reflects our dedication to craftsmanship," Sukhvinder said. "Our decanter represents the essence of the Sphynx itself – a talking point for any occasion." In other Tequila news, British brand Neurita recently launched two expressions designed to be mixed in Margaritas.
