Sipsmith unveils sustainable redesign
Beam Suntory-owned Sipsmith gin has revealed a new sustainable bottle design that cuts its weight by 20%.
The brand, which received B Corp certification last year, is rolling out a new bottle made with up to 44% recycled content. Furthermore, the wax-dipped lid has been removed, saving seven tonnes of single-use plastic per year, the brand said. The bottle is also taller than its predecessor, with a ripple pattern on its shoulders inspired by the brand’s swan logo. The logo, which can be spotted on the label, references the swan’s neck of the copper pot stills at the Sipsmith distillery in west London. The label design also details the brand’s history, including the founder’s original delivery vehicle (a motorcycle scooter) and a scroll representing a handwritten His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) certificate that names Sipsmith as London’s first small-batch gin distillery in 200 years. The ergonomic bottle has also been designed with bartenders and consumers in mind by offering a comfortable grip to ensure easier pouring. Co-founder Sam Galsworthy said: “Since we started Sipsmith, our ethos has always been one of constant improvement. This beautiful new bottle design shows that it is possible to reduce environmental impact significantly without compromising the quality of the packaging. “The joy for me here is in all the details – from a more sustainable closure to some hidden gems within the design. When you hold it in your hand, it’s far easier to pour from, which will please bartenders and sippers alike.” The new design started appearing on shelves last month and will be rolled out across the brand’s range in both the on- and off-trade during the end of this year and into 2024. In July, Sipsmith revealed the winner of its inaugural UK cocktail competition, Cygnus.
