Singapore Distillery launches six gins

by Melita Kiely

Following three years of construction and product development, Singapore Distillery is officially open for business and ready to release its inaugural gin range.

The Ang Mo Kio-based distillery was established in 2017 and the team behind Singapore Distillery has spent the last three years creating a series of six signature gins. Ashwin Sekaran, head distiller, said: “Singapore has always been a melting pot of different cultures, each with their own cuisines, and we thought these unique flavours and ingredients would be perfect for incorporating into gins and other spirits.” The distillery took inspiration from Asia’s wide variety of herbs and spices for the gins. Singa Gin is the distillery’s classic London Dry style, made with 13 herbs and spices, including Sarawak pepper, cloves, mandarin orange and Ceylon cinnamon. Also part of the range is Coconut Pandan Gin, infused with fresh coconut hearts, freshly grated coconut and pandan leaves. Lime Garden Gin was distilled with a trio of Southeast Asian limes to create a ‘bright, citrus-forward’ spirit. Singapore Sling Gin was designed to be the ‘perfect base’ for a Singapore Sling cocktail and combines botanicals such as orange, cherry, pineapple and lime into the final product. Stolen Roses Gin is a nod to Southeast Asia’s Badung regency in Bali, Indonesia, and is distilled with a blend of roses before being ‘lightly’ sweetened post-distillation with natural cane sugar. Completing the range is Kyuri Gin, which is distilled with fresh Japanese cucumbers and sakura flowers to create a floral flavour profile. Each expression is bottled at 42.5% ABV and will retail for RRP S$69.90 (US$51.50) for a 750ml bottle, or RRP S$6.90 (US$5) per 50ml sample. A sample pack containing a 50ml bottled of each gin is also available for RRP S$35.90 (US$26.50).
