Rock band Motörhead launches trio of spirits

English rock band Motörhead has launched its own single malt whisky, dark rum and vodka brands on Amazon UK.

Motörhead Single Malt Whisky (40% ABV) has been made in partnership with Swedish producer Mackmyra and the firm’s master blender, Angela D’Orazio. The whisky has been matured in new American oak barrels for five years to create an “easy-to-drink” liquid with aromas of tobacco, anise, citrus and almonds. Motörhead Premium Dark Rum hails from the Dominican Republic and is described as a “full-bodied” rum with notes of chocolate, arrack and vanilla, leading to a spicy finish. The rum was matured for eight years in ex-Bourbon barrels. Completing the trio of spirits is Motörhead Vödka, which has been designed for either sipping neat or with a mixer. Sarah Gandy, head of marketing at importer and distributor Marussia Brands, said: “The team couldn’t be more excited to be working on the Motörhead brand. “We feel that there’s an exciting opportunity to utilise the incredible distilling of Angela D’Orazio’s skills with the rebel spirit of Motörhead in the bars of the UK and homes of the UK rum, whisky and vodka fans.” All three spirits will be available to order from Amazon UK, with the rum priced at £37.99 (US$49), the vodka priced at £29.99 (US$39) and the whisky priced at £69.94 (US$90). In January 2016, Jack Daniel’s revealed that a single barrel expression to mark 40 years of Motörhead had sold out.
