Rémy Martin marks 300 years with new Cognac
Cognac brand Rémy Martin has released a limited edition expression to celebrate its 300th anniversary, priced at US$2,735.
The 300th Anniversary Coupe was created by cellar master Baptiste Loiseau from the brand’s Réserve Perpétuelle, a collection of rare eaux-de-vie from the Grand Champagne region that has been passed on by Loiseau’s predecessors over the years. For this edition, Loiseau drew on the previous 290th Anniversary Coupe, which was made with eaux-de-vie from the brand's 275th anniversary bottling, and combined it with other eaux-de-vies from Grande Champagne. “The perpetual reserve is as much a process as a legacy,” he explained. “When a new blend is created, part of it is set aside for future cellar masters. In turn, they will use it for the next Anniversary Coupe. “To create the 300th Anniversary Coupe, I have come to enrich this blend with the treasures of our cellars and Grande Champagne terroir, which will be the legacy I leave to the next generation. By reserving some eaux-de-vie from this precious Coupe 300th Anniversary, the story will continue for future generations." The resulting liquid offers a nose of candied orange, passion fruit, sandalwood, leather, mixed spices, undergrowth, a hint of floral notes. The palate brings flavours of candied fruit, passion fruit, fig, exotic fruits, nut and oak. The bottle was inspired by the shape of the 250th Anniversary Coupe created in 1974, and has been enhanced with embossed lines to signify the forward motion of the brand’s emblem, the Rémy Martin Centaur's javelin. The carafe is presented in a wooden case containing a note from Loiseau and a QR code to access digital content. The Cognac is available to pre-order now and will be in stores from March 2024. There are only 6,724 bottles available globally, with 1,000 allocated to the US via a selection of high-end retailers, private client directors and the brand's website. Birthday celebrations To celebrate the milestone anniversary, Rémy Martin will host multiple activations from this month and throughout the year. From spring 2024, the brand's visitor centre in Cognac will reopen after several years of renovations. Festive limited edition releases of Rémy Martin XO, 1738 Accord Royal, Tercet and VSOP will also be launched with designs inspired by the brand’s emblem. The Rémy Martin Bartender Talent Academy competition will return this year to mark 300 years of 'cocktail culture and innovation'. The top 24 finalists will compete in the global final, held in France in September. Additionally, the brand will honour the tricentennial anniversary with the Centaur Birthday Tour, which will bring the celebrations to top nightclubs and festivals across the world. Parent company Rémy Cointreau saw sales fall by 22.2% in the first half of 2023/2024, with Cognac declining by nearly a third.
