Midleton Very Rare 2018 marks 35 years

Irish Distillers has revealed the 2018 edition in its Midleton Very Rare Irish whiskey collection – the 35th iteration in the series.

Midleton Very Rare 2018 is a blend of single pot still and single grain Irish whiskeys selected by master distiller Brian Nation. Each cask has been matured exclusively in lightly charred ex-Bourbon American oak barrels for between 12 and 28 years. Bottled at 40% abv, the whiskey is said to have subtle floral notes alongside a touch of fresh herbs and citrus, combined with spicier flavours of cinnamon, clove and black pepper. Notes of vanilla, orchard fruit, green banana and a hint of barley sugar contrast this. Midleton Very Rare 2018 is available globally from October at an RRP of €180 (US$208). Brian Nation, master distiller at Midleton Distillery, said: “We set aside very small amounts of particularly fine single pot still and single grain distillates each year so that the Midleton Very Rare legacy can continue. “This practice has been going on for over 40 years and today we are the proud custodians of the exceptional distillates with a duty of care to ensure that future generations are able to enjoy the pinnacle of Irish whiskey as we do today.” In 2014, former Midleton Distillery master distiller Barry Crockett temporarily came out of retirement to create Midleton Very Rare 30th Anniversary Pearl Edition.
