Michter’s rereleases 25YO Bourbon
The 25-year-old whiskey from Kentucky distillery Michter's returns to shelves this December for the first time in three years.
Michter’s is riding high after landing atop Drinks International’s annual top 50 list of The World’s Most Admired Whiskies. It is the first time an American whiskey has taken home the number-one spot and, to celebrate, Michter’s will rerelease its 25-year-old Bourbon next month for the first time since 2020. The barrels were selected by Michter’s master distiller Dan McKee and master of maturation Andrea Wilson. “This release of the 25 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is an outstanding flavour experience without the overly oaked, dusty old whiskey character,” Wilson said. “It is an exceptional whiskey for an exceptional achievement in the whiskey world.” The 2023 release of Michter’s 25-year-old Bourbon is bottled at 58.1% ABV and priced at US$1,500. It has notes of dark chocolate, world spices, fruit, and nut oils. “I am proud to work with a talented team of individuals who strive to create great whiskey,” McKee added. “From Michter’s US*1 Bourbon to our 25 Year Bourbon, our team takes tremendous pride in the lineup of whiskeys we are offering. This release is a truly special one.” The release comes just a week after Buffalo Trace revealed a 25-year-old Bourbon of its own, the oldest Eagle Rare expression to date. It is priced at US$10,000 with 200 bottles available globally. These ultra-aged Bourbons are rare – and expensive – though perhaps they signal a wider trend of brands pushing maturation limits while avoiding the aggressive wood qualities that come with multiple decades in new charred oak. While the Michter’s release is priced significantly lower, Bourbon hunters should expect to see it on the shelf more or less in line with the Eagle Rare.
