Matthew McConaughey moves into Tequila
Actor Matthew McConaughey has swapped whiskey for agave spirits with the launch of Pantalones Organic Tequila.
McConaughey was the former creative director for Campari Group’s Wild Turkey Bourbon brand and co-created Wild Turkey Longbranch. He parted ways with the company earlier this year after working together since 2016. The Dallas Buyers Club star, alongside his wife Camila McConaughey, has now entered the Tequila category with the Pantalones brand, which translates to ‘pants’ in Spanish. They released a short YouTube video to promote the brand, featuring a voiceover from Matthew who said ‘when did Tequila stop being Tequila?' followed by Camila's response: 'right? Where’s the fun?’ The video follows the duo as they appear to ride motorcycles while sipping Margaritas without wearing any pants in honour of the brand’s name. According to the brand's website, the couple met in 2006 at the Hyde club in Los Angeles, where the actor eventually secured a date with Camila after making her a Margarita. A statement from the couple, who married in 2012, said: “The world doesn’t need another celebrity Tequila, but Tequila sure could use a kick in the pants. Pantalones Organic Tequila is the best thing we’ve made with our pants on.” The super-premium Tequila brand was created to ‘celebrate having fun, doing good and not taking life too seriously’. Made with 100% Blue Weber agave, the range includes Blanco, with notes of honey and citrus; Reposado, aged for nine months with hints of sweet fruit and fresh oak; and Añejo, aged for 15 months with notes of vanilla, butterscotch and maple. Pantalones was made at Tequilera Tap (NOM 1614), a family-owned distillery that opened in Amatitán, Jalisco, in 2019 and is known for producing Tres Agaves Tequila. The brand was later sold to Trinchero Family Estates. The Blanco is priced at US$44.99, the Reposado at US$49.99 and the Añejo at US$54.99.
