Lagavulin and Caol Ila unveil Fèis Ìle whiskies
Diageo-owned Islay distilleries Lagavulin and Caol Ila have created limited edition single malt whiskies to mark this year's Fèis Ìle festival.
The Fèis Ìle music and malt festival is an annual gathering of whisky fans in Islay, an island off the west coast of Scotland. This year, it will take place from 26 May to 3 June. Lagavulin has produced the Fèis Ìle 2023 14-Year-Old, which has been matured in a combination of American and European oak, and finished in Armagnac casks for the first time. This whisky offers a ‘fruitier twist’, balanced by the brand’s signature smoke. Jordan Paisley, Lagavulin distillery manager, said: “Lagavulin Fèis Ìle is always a celebration for us all on Islay and as we come together to share a dram this year’s release is no different. This combination of casks is a special nod to our team near and far as we continue to surprise our fans with unexpected flavours and twists on their favourite whisky.” The whisky retails for RRP £220 (US$276), and clocks in at 58.4% ABV. It can be purchased exclusively from the distillery from 27 May. Meanwhile, the Caol Ila Fèis Ìle 2023 13-Year-Old was matured in Pedro Ximénez and oloroso Sherry-seasoned butts, and contains sweet fruit notes complementing a peat and peppery spice. Sam Hale, Caol Ila distillery manager, said: “Fèis Ìle is always a remarkable time for us and we’re so excited to host it for the first time in our new visitor experience. This bottling is a special one for the team and we’re looking forward to raising a glass together with our fans.” Caol Ila will host a visitor experience during the festival for the first time this year. The 13-year-old can be purchased for RRP £185 (US$232) exclusively from the distillery, and clocks in at 60.4% ABV. It will be available from 29 May. Lagavulin occasionally works with Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman. In October, the two collaborated to create an 11-year-old whisky to be sipped alongside a steak dish. Last month, Ardbeg created a limited edition single malt called Heavy Vapours to celebrate this year’s Fèis Ìle festival.
