Kyrö Distillery creates core whisky range
Finnish producer Kyrö Distillery has released its core whisky range, comprising four expressions.
The quartet of whiskies are made from 100% Finnish rye and include: Kyrö Malt, Kyrö Wood Smoke, the new Kyrö Oloroso, and the new Kyrö Peat Smoke. Miika Lipiäinen, co-founder of the brand, said: “Launching this core whisky range is a huge milestone for the brand. It’s been in the making since we launched Malt in 2020, so it’s surreal seeing it come to life. “The core four were made to showcase the versatility of the rye grain and has allowed us to create something for everyone whilst introducing them to the Finnish rye whisky category. “Our Malt Whisky, which launched in 2020, is so well loved within the whisky community already and we’ve had strong interest in the Wood Smoke while it’s been on a pre-sale, so we’re confident this full core range, including two exciting new varieties, will be received just as well by whisky lovers around the globe. “Not only are they high-quality products that taste great, but they represent true Finnish culture through the ingredients and old traditional methods used; a message that’s important to us all at Kyrö.” Kyrö Malt is double-distilled and aged in new American white oak casks for at least three years. It is bottled at 47.2% ABV and priced at £49.95 (US$62). Kyrö Wood Smoke is made with malt that has been ‘alder-smoked’ – an old northern tradition – in a 100-year-old barn. Bottled at 47.2% ABV, the whisky will retail for £59.95 (US$75). One of two new releases, Kyrö Malt Oloroso is made from 100% malted Finnish wholegrain rye. The whisky is triple-cask-finished in Spanish oloroso Sherry, new American oak, and ex-Bourbon barrels. Sitting at 47.2% ABV, the whisky has been priced at RRP £54.95 (US$69). Completing the core collection, Kyrö Peat Smoke is created with Finnish freshwater peat. This involves peat-smoking the full-grain rye in a bar for 24 hours. The whisky is vatted together using mainly Kyrö Peat Smoke New American oak and ex-Bourbon barrels, before being bottled at 47.2% ABV. The RRP has been set at £59.95 (US$75).
