Kavalan launches Triple Sherry Cask in US
Taiwanese whisky producer Kavalan has brought its Triple Sherry Cask Finish to the US.
The whisky was fully matured in oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel wine casks, and then laid to rest in what the brand called a 'three-stage balancing act of marrying vats'. Kavalan's senior blender, Zerose Yang, explained that during the process “the flavours harmonise through a myriad combination of the three Sherry cask whiskies, creating up to nine distinct Sherry dimensions.” He added: “With the dried fruits of the oloroso cask as its main character, Triple Sherry is embellished with the sweetness of PX and Moscatel casks.” Kavalan CEO Mr YT Lee said the release was “all about multiplying and enriching the Sherry flavours to make a distinct whisky that has dried fruits, rich caramel, sweet maltose and tropical fruits as its profile.” Additional notes on the nose include ‘fresh scents of grapes and citrus interlaced with chocolate brownie and toffee sweetness’, while hints of cinnamon, clover and spiciness can also be identified. For the palate, flavours of Sherry and dried fruit linger with candied fruit, caramel and a honey sweetness. Bottled at 43% ABV, the whisky will retail for RRP US$100 per bottle in the US. It will be presented in a tin that represents the Central Mountain and Snow Mountain ranges that surround Kavalan’s distillery. The bottle's design, meanwhile, is painted in white, gold and red, which is said to symbolise the whisky’s 'multi-layered and smooth taste'. Kavalan originally debuted Triple Sherry Cask in 2021. The expression won a Gold medal at The Spirits Business’s World Whisky Masters last year. In total, Kavalan picked up 12 Gold awards in the competition. The brand also recently reintroduced its Cask Strength Series to the US.
