JJ Whitley launches blood orange gin

by Owen Bellwood

Halewood Wines & Spirits-owned gin brand JJ Whitley has updated its bottle design and expanded its flavoured portfolio with the release of a blood orange iteration.

JJ Whitley is the latest brand to release a citrus-inspired gin, following product launches from Malfy, Tanqueray and JJ Whitley's sister brand Whitley Neill. Leanne Ware, white spirits director at Halewood Wines & Spirits, said: “We’ve seen orange flavoured spirits perform exceptionally well for our other brands such as Whitley Neill, which carries Blood Orange Gin and vodka variants. “As a result, we saw an opportunity to add another dimension to JJ Whitley’s portfolio just in time for the start of summer and warmer weather. With a heritage and strong success in bringing new, intriguing flavours to market, the brand is well-positioned to capitalise on this trend.” The new gin is said to be “bursting with bright, zesty flavours”, including Mediterranean orange, candied citrus peel and marmalade with undertones of liquorice root and cassia bark. JJ Whitley Blood Orange Gin also features the brand’s new bottle design, which includes floral embossing to reflect its “story and craft credentials”. Ware added: “The introduction of a fresh, distinctive bottle was important for the brand’s future growth in the segment, in which look and feel is an important consideration for consumers and hugely influential in their purchasing decision within this category.” JJ Whitley Blood Orange Gin is available in 700ml bottle at 38.6% abv with an RRP of £18 (US$23).
