Glenrothes adds 15YO to core range

Edrington Group-owned Glenrothes Distillery has introduced a 15-year-old to its core range, which joins the existing 18- and 25-year-old whiskies.

The Glenrothes has been producing single malt whiskies in Scotland since 1879. Located in the Speyside region, the distillery uses low mineral content spring water and a long distillation approach in tall stills. The new 15-year-old addition to the brand's permanent range is aged exclusively in European oak Sherry-seasoned casks, selected for the release by Laura Rampling, master whisky maker of The Glenrothes. Described as rich and sweet, the single malt offers notes of caramelised pears, dark chocolate, sweet baking spices, pecan pie, crystalised ginger and orange marmalade. Like other whiskies in the brand's portfolio, the expression is offered without additional colouring. The whisky clocks in at 43% ABV. Rampling commented: “While The Glenrothes spirit is inherently delicate in style, it does not get overwhelmed by the bolder flavours created by maturation in first-fill European oak casks. "It is this precise and counterintuitive marriage of the delicate and the bold which makes this 15-year-old whisky unique, bringing sweet fruit and bright spice together in a deliciously unexpected way.” The 15-year-old is presented in The Glenrothes’ traditional distillery bottle and packed in a dual-layered cylinder that opens to reveal the whisky within. Drawing inspiration from the natural greenery found throughout The Glenrothes Estate, the 15-year-old's fully recyclable packaging introduces shades of lichen green in a tribute to the whisky’s Scottish Highland home. The Glenrothes 15-year-old is now available, subject to availability and location, at select retailers in the UK, including The Whisky Shop, Berry Bros & Rudd, Harvey Nichols, and Harrods for a suggested retail price of £100 (US$130). Last year, The Glenrothes debuted a 42-year-old expression, limited to 1,134 bottles, which retailed for £6,750 (US$8,151) each.
